FAQ - Callers

If you are experiencing a problem, before you start to troubleshoot, make sure you are using the latest flash player - Update Adobe Player.

What are the requirements for the caller?

  1. To be wired to the Internet. It is recommended that you do not use a wireless connection.
  2. A webcam, headphones and mic or headset, and an Internet connection. Please DO NOT use your speakers, it will cause an echo in the production and your call will be rejected.
  3. The latest version of Adobe Flash. Update Adobe Player.

How much bandwidth do I need to beam in (call)?

The bandwidth requirement to watch and beam in (call in) to the show depends on the type of broadcasting. The broadcaster can choose to use lower quality or high quality broadcasting. See the bandwidth requirement for each type above.

I beamed in and I'm not on-the-air.

When making a call you have to go through our screening process. First, you click on the lips; the system will put you in en-queue (as it will read on the top of your video screen). If there is a call screener, you will speak to them next, answer a few questions, and they will put you through to the host. Your screen will read “Call Screened,” and it may take several minutes to get on the air, as there may be callers ahead of you. When waiting, do not click the 'pause' button; you will not get on the show if the host sees a frozen screen. Please be patient and wait until your viewer screen says “On Air.” Everything you say and do will be on the show thereafter.

I can't beam in (after test process) and the window disappears.

After the test process the window disappears and you cannot beam in, you did not behave and have been blocked. Shovio does not allow an abusive or disrespectful behavior. You will be able to watch the show and see the chat taking place, but you will not be allowed to participate. Please see the community guidelines section in Policy located at the bottom of the homepage - Policy.

I have a webcam, but I do not see myself.

If you have no video, make sure that your webcam is not being used by any other program. Completely exit all other programs, such as Skype or any other program that could be using your webcam. If you are not sure which application is occupying your camera, restart your computer and then turn the programs off. Try making a call to the show again.

How do I find out my Internet speed.

Use the following link: http://www.speedtest.net/ and click on the green button “Begin Test,” located on the map. The test will begin and the meter will measure your ping. The ping should be fairly small: from 5 ms - 100 ms. The ping is important, it will tell you about the latency (time delay) of your Internet connection, which can affect the quality of the broadcast as well as your experience when beaming to the show.

When I am in a call with the host, I see the host in half the screen and the other half is black screen. Why is this?

When the host forces a split screen, the caller will see the host in half the screen and the other half is black. The viewers can see the caller in the split screen where you see the black space and since you are the caller you will see yourself in the call window located over the chat (not in both places).
