Abiola earned her star as a member of the sexerati by directing Afrodite Superstar, an award-winning feminist erotica film, initially under the name Venus Hottentot. The film was executive produced by Candida Royalle and premiered at the New School for Social Research with a discussion on women and sexuality. Abiola also presented the film with a multimedia art exhibit called Hos, Putas and Dragon Ladies: Our Sexuality Remixed at the Chashama Gallery in Manhattan.

The Village Voice christened Afrodite Superstar one of the Top 10 NY erotic films and it was also nominated for 7 AVN Awards. In two short years the film has been featured in numerous PhD papers as a one of a kind sexploration for women of color, and heralded in sex media reviews from Fleshbot to Spread Magazine.

Abiola revealed that she was as the director of Afrodite Superstar on stage at the Museum of the City of New York in front of a superstar panel that she created including luminaries from Kathy Bates to Eve Ensler for the Until the Violence Stops Film Festival for stopping global violence against women and girls.

Her woman-centric films explore issues such as relationship violence (Ophelia’s Opera), mental illness (Knives in My Throat) and sexual empowerment (Afrodite Superstar).
